New New Rdio
Below are the collected reactions of some of my favorite designers and developers to Rdio’s second web and desktop UI refresh in three months.
@simmy Any chance you could elaborate on the thinking behind using Open Sans for the sidebar and keeping Helvetica for content? /cc @Rdio0 likes·0 comments
@Trenti: Helvetica sidebar made it feel too template-y. Open Sans gave it a kick, so we use it for impact, but not total saturation.0 likes·0 comments
@rdio My left nav looks like this: https://skitch.com/timoni/ed5pg/rdio I’m guessing it should look more like this? https://skitch.com/timoni/ed5pe/heavy-rotation-rdio0 likes·0 comments
@timoni @rdio I would much prefer the latter as well.0 likes·0 comments
@simmy Exciting new white @rdio, yet details leave me a little frustrated. Would love to get a better angle on your design roadmap some day.0 likes·0 comments
@colly: That’s because the details need more, well, detail. And fine-tuning. And there’s the key — the roadmap. It’s an important 1st step.0 likes·0 comments
@simmy Initially felt something beautifully complex like @rdio doesn’t benefit from such bold simplicity. Roadmaps, details… I trust you.0 likes·0 comments
@simmy My views on white @rdio shifted. Portrait on big display, with the Network column hidden, it’s elegant indeed http://gim.ie/PCs30 likes·0 comments
New New @Rdio is beautiful.0 likes·0 comments
Now I want this on their iPhone app. /cc @Rdio0 likes·0 comments
@maxvoltar: I think you might be onto something…0 likes·0 comments
New New @rdio is very… minimal. Feel like I need a bit of contrast and clarity of division. Or alternately more spacing.0 likes·0 comments
@weightshift: That’s fair. Every last detail goes a long way in this design and we’re not all the way there yet. We’ll get there.0 likes·0 comments
@simmy @weightshift my biggest gripe is the contrast of the text everywhere vs the Album title/info (Helvetica doesn’t seem to play well)0 likes·0 comments
@simmy I trust you to get there. Look forward to it.0 likes·0 comments
@simmy word! And most definitely excited to see where you guys take this :)0 likes·0 comments
Not feelin’ the new @rdio interface… commenter on The @Verge nails it — Zune! http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/28/3124696/rdio-minimal-redesign-web-desktop-apps#106701420 http://pic.twitter.com/8oFKHr5n0 likes·0 comments
Also, RE: @rdio, I was a big fan of the OS X app, but its flat UI and use of Open Sans feel so foreign in OS X. http://www.rdio.com/apps/ Hmm…0 likes·0 comments
Hm. New Rdio feels very Microsoft-y. (Well, the new MS at least.) I’m not sure if that’s good or bad, but it’s certainly bold.0 likes·0 comments
Somebody just whitewashed rdio.0 likes·0 comments
I’m with @weightshift on this one. I’m all for minimalism, but the new @rdio could just just a bit of extra design to break sections up0 likes·0 comments
@weightshift @rdio While I agree, I think this is a step in a very interesting direction.0 likes·0 comments
@daveheal @rdio @dodeca i kinda like it, but i haven’t really used it yet.0 likes·0 comments
digging new monochrome @rdio desktop app, but wouldn’t mid a tiny bit more definition in the columns: http://twitpic.com/a1wqky0 likes·0 comments
@dwjr @rdio I thought mine lost all of its UI chrome :/0 likes·0 comments
